LENSMAN: DUSTIN HANEY

Dustin Haney, 25, a photographer whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, People, and Country Weekly, among other publications, is also an accomplished filmmaker whose clips have aired on TV networks including The Disney Channel, CMT (Country Music Television), GAC (Great American Country), ABC, VH1, MTV and The Outdoor Channel and TV programs such as The View and Good Morning America.

The Nashville native has produced content for many artists and has hit the road with many solo acts and bands to capture exclusive performance and behind the scenes footage for Breaking Benjamin, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Andy Grammar, Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Luke Combs, Chris Bandi, Eli Young Band, Ronnie Dunn, Deborah Allen, Edwin McCain and Clint Black to name a few.

“Dustin has all of the qualities that I look for in an up-and-coming videographer and photographer,” says Ronnie Dunn. “When I met him, at just 20-years-old, he was working as a key player with one of the music industry’s most successful video producers.”

Haney recently created the music video for Breaking Benjamin’s #1 single, Failure, which following its released in 2015, served as the band’s comeback record after a 5-year hiatus and to date has amassed over 9 million views.

In the last few years, Haney, who caught the creative bug working as production assistant for the Outdoor Channel at age 15, has traveled to Iceland, Equador, New Zealand, Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, both for work and artistic inspiration.

“Travel is insanely important,” says Haney. “These trips were ultimately professional testing grounds where my goal was to create the definitive travel recap with a very Nat Geo feel.”

Haney recently visited the Galapagos Islands as part of a Guy Harvey Outpost photo expedition where he shot both stills and video, teaming up with aspiring photographer Ronnie Dunn and longtime Sports Illustrated photographer Ronald C. Modra as part of their new creative endeavor called The Lensmen Project.

“Dustin is one of the finest young filmmakers I’ve seen,” says Modra. “His enthusiasm is infectious.”

Adds Ronnie Dunn: “His sense of artistry, knowledge of cutting edge technology, sense of adventure combined with a fierce work ethic make Dustin a welcome member to our group of exceptionally diverse Lensmen.”

WHY I LIKE IT : The dynamic range & overall film look to black magic cameras are a big reason I use this on all of my medium scale projects as well as it being a great middle tier between a dslr or mirrorless camera & something more like a RED or ARRI when you need something in that realm.
